The College is one of nine colleges and schools of the University of South Alabama. Since its founding on February 1, 1967, it has maintained its status as the second largest college on campus with approximately 2,400 students evenly divided among graduate and undergraduate studies. With a total annual budget exceeding 7 million dollars, the College is able to support a broad array of degree programs. The College is nationally accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and our educator preparation programs in teacher education, educational leadership, counseling and psychometry, library media, health, physical education and leisure studies are all approved by the Alabama State Department of Education. And we are the only college in Alabama to offer master's and doctoral programs in Instructional Design and Development.

The primary administrative functions of the College are shared by the Office of the Dean, Academic Departments, and the Program Faculty. The Dean’s Office is comprised of several offices, including those of the Associate Dean for Academic and Fiscal Affairs, the Associate Dean for Professional Development and External Affairs, the Director of Graduate Studies and Research, and the Director of Assessment and Evaluation. The College has more than 60 full-time faculty members who are organized into three separate departments: Health, Physical Education, and Leisure Studies; Professional Studies; and, Leadership and Teacher Education. Each department sponsors several academic programs with which different faculty members are affiliated.
In addition to an organizational structure comprised of administrative offices, departments and associated programs, faculty within specific departments are also affiliated with cross-disciplinary teams that target emerging issues that have been identified as having the potential for significant impact upon the College. These Initiatives cover a broad range of critical issues and are developing some of the most innovative programs in the College today.
