Company Overview
The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky is a public residential STEM high school program, established and funded by the Kentucky legislature, on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Students complete their last two years of high school while earning at least 60 hours of college credit. Gatton Academy staff and administrators are officially employees of Western Kentucky University. WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, which is approximately 70 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee, and 110 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky.
Company History
The Gatton Academy was established in 2007 after 10 years of advocacy. It is one of very few university model state-supported residential STEM schools in the United States. The Gatton Academy was ranked as the most outstanding public high school in the United States by Newsweek/The Daily Beast in 2012, 2013, 2014 and was one of three finalists in the 2012 Intel Schools of Distinction for high schools in science. The university model allows Gatton staff to be focused on student support while students are fully integrated into WKU for all of their academic experiences.
