Company Overview
Located in Philadelphia, Research for Better Schools (RBS) is a non-profit educational firm serving educators in the Mid-Atlantic region and other parts of the U.S. The Research and Evaluation Center currently conducts large, medium, and small-scale research and evaluation projects, including survey design and development, document review and analysis, individual and group interviews, focus groups, on-site observations, student achievement (e.g., standardized and portfolio) analysis, and randomized control trial studies.
The Evaluation Unit focuses on projects that are designed to determine the effectiveness of specific education improvement programs or materials, while the Research Unit conducts studies related to broader improvement approaches and issues. The Center staff provides prompt and clear feedback to clients in a variety of formats, such as written reports, oral presentations, and debriefing sessions with stakeholders. All services are tailored to the needs of the client and provided in partnership with the client to assure the relevancy and usefulness of the results.
At present, the Center has nine full-time professional employees and several part-time staff working on over 16 funded projects. There is presently a director of the Research Unit; RBS is seeking a senior professional in this newly created position to lead, manage, and market Evaluation Unit services. The position reports to the RBS Executive Director.

Founded in 1966, RBS is a private, nonprofit educational organization funded primarily through grants and contracts from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, Mid-Atlantic state departments of education, institutions of higher education, foundations, and school districts.
