Company Overview
Zayed University is located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The university was established in 1998 to educate national women to become leaders in the country. The university currently enrolls about 5000 students, divided between the two campuses. Faculty are from more than 70 nations. The university is seeking energetic, innovative faculty who want to contribute in major ways to the future of education of females in an Arab country.
The nation is extremely safe and is an ally of the United States. The unversity is designed upon the U.S. system and all instruction is in English. All students and faculty speak English. 
The population of the UAE is about four million and almost 80% are expatriates. Both cities are progressive. The UAE is advanced, and western women do not have to cover, can drive, can live alone, and live in an atmosphere very much like a large US city and is safer for women and families. Private schools are excellent and many use an American curriculum, and British and International Baccalaureate curriculua are also available.
Company History
The university was established in 1998 with the vision and mission of educating the nation's females and now has been expanded to include men. With a new campus in Dubai, the university has 5 colleges,one of which is the College of Education. The College was established in 2000 and offers undergraduate teacher education as well as the master of education in Educational Leadership and Special Education. 
Education is a high priority of the nation, and the Ministry of Education plans to restructure the entire public education system. College faculty have the opportunity to participate in the Ministry's initiatives and work closely with both public and private schools in the emirates. 
In additon the College sponsors the Zayed Institute of Professional Education, which works closely with schools in the country and provides professional development. Both the Ministry and schools frequently contract with the Center to conduct research or for in-service.
Benefits
Health care is subsidized by the federal government and the university and costs about $50.00/month for a single person. The federal health plan uses outstanding medical facilities in the country and also provides for emergency medical care in the US or elsewhere. Each faculty member receives 15 days paid sick leave.
There are no taxes in the nation, so your paycheck, less health care, is what you bank. The US provides a tax exclusion of $82,500 for individuals who establish overseas residency.
In addition, housing is provided with a furniture allowance. Airfare is paid for the faculty member and the faculty member's family. Tuition for private schools is provided (but not for daycare). Each faculty member (and family) get a vacation ticket(s) each summer for the paid vacation, which is typically about 8 weeks.
The university will occupy a new campus in Abu Dhabi, with completion now estimated in 2011.
The nation's currency is the dirhem linked to the US dollar at 3.67 dh/dollar. Salaries are competitive with comparable universities in the U.S.
