POSITIONS ANNOUNCEMENT:
EDUCATION LEADERSHIP AND POLICY POSITIONS
The School of Education at the University of Michigan seeks two colleagues for tenure-track appointments (open rank) in educational leadership and policy. Both appointments will be in the Educational Studies department, a department that centers the simultaneous pursuit of educational excellence, diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity.
- For one appointment, we seek applications from a diverse pool of scholars who strongly focus on PreK-12 educational improvement—specifically, scholars whose research has examined the organization of classrooms, schools, and systems in the pursuit of excellence and equity in students’ educational opportunities and outcomes.
- For the other appointment, we seek applications from a diverse pool of scholars who strongly focus on leveraging educational policy to redress systemic racial injustices experienced by children, youth, and communities.
There may be an opportunity for either one of the positions to be jointly held with the Ford School of Public Policy.
We particularly invite applications from scholars dedicated to fostering educational improvement in under-resourced schools and in marginalized communities using equity-driven frameworks. We also seek scholars who have demonstrated the capacity to create and use scholarship in education, leadership, and policy, with strong methodological training in quantitative, qualitative, or multiple methods; who have experience with novel and inclusive approaches to grounding research in practice and community contexts; who can successfully teach engaging courses in education, leadership, and policy at undergraduate and graduate levels, both face-to-face and online; and who strive to justly influence professional, policy, and academic communities. Applicants at the advanced assistant, associate professor, or full professor rank are strongly encouraged to apply.
These colleagues will be joining a world-class university and premier School of Education that offers a vibrant, transdisciplinary intellectual community. Our distinguished faculty, students, and staff are dedicated to fostering a democratic and civically engaged society that values teaching, learning, and collaborating in the U.S. and globally.
With all hires, Educational Studies seeks candidates who are committed to the School of Education’s imperatives to improve educational practice and diversity, equity, and inclusion for all students. We are responsive to the needs of families, including (but not limited to) dual-career couples, families with children, and LGBTQ+ couples. Please see our diversity strategic plan for more information: http://www.soe.umich.edu/diversity/SOE-Diversity-Statement-And-Plan.pdf.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise graduate students, support our growing Master’s programs, collaborate in fielding a new and innovative doctoral program, direct doctoral dissertations, and serve as an active member of the School of Education, the University, and education professional communities. Experience mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and abilities, including women, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, and first-generation college students, is desired.
