Description

INTRODUCTION 

The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut (UConn) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in school counseling at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Educational Psychology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach appropriate courses in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology; conduct research in school counseling or counselor education; engage in scholarly activities; and participate in outreach and service activities, including support of the accreditation process through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP). In addition, the candidate will be expected to pursue external funding to support research efforts in their areas of expertise.

The University of Connecticut’s Educational Psychology program is regularly ranked among the top of its kind in the nation, per U.S. News & World Report. With nearly 40 faculty members, the department is among the most productive at the University. In addition to the program in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology the Educational Psychology Department has programs in Research, Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation; Cognition, Instruction, and Learning Technology; Educational Technology; Giftedness, Creativity, and Talent Development; School Psychology; and Special Education. 

The Neag School of Education stands out as a major contributor to instructional and research excellence at the University of Connecticut. With academic departments dedicated to educational leadership, educational psychology, and curriculum and instruction, the Neag School offers programs in such areas as teacher education; school psychology; sport management; higher education and student affairs; and administrator preparation. According to the 2022 U.S. News & World Report rankings of Best Graduate Schools, the Neag School ranks among the top 20 public graduate schools of education in the nation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include teaching courses in the CACREP-accredited school counseling program; advising graduate students; engaging in research, including securing extramural funding to support research efforts; supporting program maintenance and improvement efforts; and contributing to the Program, Department, School, University, and State through service and outreach.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 2022. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of work at UConn’s regional campuses across the state. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision or related field from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Relevant counseling experience in K-12 settings

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous school counseling experience in K-12 public schools, particularly in urban settings
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and social justice
  • Potential for teaching effectiveness
  • Experience providing clinical supervision in an academic setting
  • Membership and active involvement in professional organizations such as ACA, ASCA, and/or ACES
  • Active research program in the field of counselor education and supervision
  • Familiarity with CACREP accreditation process
  • Experience advising master’s and doctoral students
