Description
The Institute for Advancing Computing Education (IACE) invites you to apply for a new Senior Education Researcher position. Senior Education Researchers at IACE apply their research training, skills, and knowledge on how to meet the needs of students to various projects related to computer science and AI education funded by grants and contracts with partner organizations. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Employment at IACE is dependent upon continued funding.
IACE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit specializing in computer science (CS) education research. Our mission is to advance computing, AI, and cybersecurity education through rigorous research that strengthens student success and expands opportunities for all students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide research and evaluation for various programs to clients and partners for projects aimed at improving student outcomes in computing education, including all stages of study design, implementation, and reporting
- Design and implement quantitative and qualitative methodological and analytic approaches, collect data and conduct data analyses, develop instrumentation with evidence of validity and reliability, write reports for internal and external publication, provide technical assistance related to evaluation, and other research design and implementation tasks as needed to support projects
- Perform literature reviews and prepare and annotate bibliographies as needed to support projects and proposal development
- Work closely and collaboratively with internal and external clients and partners to meet project objectives and timelines
- Share ideas for and support writing grants
- Take a leadership role on research projects by providing guidance and direction to more junior staff and by overseeing projects
- Support dissemination of research
- Engage in related activities as needed to support the mission of the organization, including supporting and growing the broader CS education research community
Requirements
Qualifications
- Masters or Ph.D./Ed.D. in Education, Computer Science, Learning Sciences, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience conducting education research, with a preferred focus on computer science, computational thinking, AI, cybersecurity, or related field(s)
- Experience with social science/education research formal methods (e.g., IRB protocols, online survey development, creating protocols and/or conducting interviews and focus groups, qualitative coding, inter-rater reliability, descriptive and inferential statistical analyses)
- Published education research in computing education or related STEM field (e.g., journal articles, conference proceedings, technical reports)
Experience with developing study design and implementation, including data collection via administering surveys, interviews, focus groups, or other methods. - Demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods
- Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis tools such as Stata, SPSS, and/or R
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills, including experience delivering presentations and the ability to write high quality reports detailing studies and results
- Strong organizational and task management skills
- Must be comfortable taking initiative, paying attention to detail, and delivering high quality output in a timely manner for our partners
- Demonstrated professionalism, including exercising good judgment and diplomacy at all times
- Knowledge of issues in academia and the STEM workforce related to various subgroups
- Knowledge of and experience with start to finish publication processes
Preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to expanding and supporting access and participation of computing
- Experience with type-setting tools for publishing such as Overleaf or LaTeX
- Experience with project management processes and tools (e.g., Monday, Kanban)
Location: Remote/work from home; Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Travel: Will be expected to travel to conferences, in-person meetings, and as necessary to complete project work (estimated to be 2-6 times per year).
