Description
The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Texas State University invites applications for an open rank tenure-line position in Geographic Education to begin Fall 2026. We seek an individual with exceptional potential or experience as a scholars and teacher. The position includes teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, advising Master's and PhD students in the department's highly successful and fully online graduate programs in Geographic Education, maintaining an active research agenda, securing external funding, and participating in departmental service activities.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
For All Ranks:
- A PhD in Geography, Geography Education, Environmental Education, Social Studies Education or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
At the Assistant Professor Level:
- A demonstrated or potential record of peer-reviewed publications in geography education.
- Demonstrated potential to develop a productive research agenda.
- Demonstrated potential to secure external funding.
- Demonstrated potential to teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels on topics including curriculum, instructional design, and professional development in geography or closely related fields.
At the Associate Professor Level:
- A record of peer-reviewed publications in geography education that is commensurate with an associate professor in the department.
- A record of securing external research funding that is commensurate with an associate professor in the department.
- A record of teaching courses at undergraduate and graduate levels on topics including curriculum, instructional design, and professional development in geography or closely related fields.
- A record of advising graduate students that is commensurate with an associate professor in the department.
At the Professor Level:
- An outstanding record of peer-reviewed publications in geography education that is commensurate with a full professor in the department.
- An outstanding record of securing external research funding that is commensurate with a full professor in the department.
- A record of teaching courses at undergraduate and graduate levels on topics including curriculum, instructional design, and professional development in geography or closely related fields.
- A record of advising doctoral students.
- Evidence of an established reputation and service in geography education.
Preferred Qualifications
- For All Ranks:
- Experience with online instruction.
Demonstrated experience collaborating with K-12 educators
At the Assistant Professor Level:
- A record of applying for or securing external research grants.
- Demonstrated ability to advise graduate students.
At the Associate Professor Level:
- Same preferred qualifications of an assistant professor, plus the following.
- Evidence of maintaining an active national and international network of professional geography education collaborators.
- Evidence of service in geography education at the national and international levels.
At the Professor Level:
- Same preferred qualifications of an associate professor, plus the following.
- Evidence of leadership in geography education at the national and international levels.
