Position Details
The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at The City College of New York (CCNY), Center for Worker Education (CWE) invites applications for a full-time (tenure-track) faculty position for Early Childhood Education - Math Teacher Education at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2026.
Candidates should demonstrate active engagement in research, teaching, and community service, with the ability to prepare early childhood educators and to teach the general education mathematics sequence (Math 150, 180, 185, etc.). The successful candidate will also demonstrate enthusiasm and ability to collaborate across divisions and programs within City College.
The department offers an interdisciplinary BA in Liberal Arts, BA in Social Justice and Urban Life, BS in Early Childhood Education for working adults, MA in the Study of the Americas, and two newly approved MA programs in Instructional Design and International & Transcultural Education.
The BS degree in Early Childhood Education for working adults, is offered jointly with the City College School of Education. The position will involve participation in some School of Education meetings, as well as data collection and analysis for accreditation bodies.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work full-time in the United States.
Requirements
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Teach 4–5 courses (18 credit hours) per academic year.
Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
Work with MA students and contribute to the development of a growing curriculum in Early Childhood Education, International and Global Education, and Instructional Design.
Build and sustain community partnerships.
Engage in research and scholarly activities in areas of expertise.
Share responsibility for departmental and college committee service.
Perform administrative and supervisory duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a relevant field of education and/or the sciences is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Availability to work evening and weekend hours.
Experience working full-time with children from birth through 2nd grade.
Experience teaching corequisite and introductory courses in mathematics.
Ability to teach successfully in an urban, multicultural setting.
Ph.D. or Ed.D. with specialization in Early Childhood Education and Math Teacher Education.
Commitment to teacher education, with a demonstrated record of scholarship and an active research agenda.
Experience in the application of contemporary adult education practices, innovative teaching modalities, and instructional technologies is especially encouraged.
