Assistant or Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education
The Department of Teaching and Learning, in the School of Education and Human development, in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at Florida International University invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education. This is a 9-month tenure-track position beginning Fall 2026.
Specifically, we seek candidates that have a strong foundation in child development with expertise in Math, Science, STEM, and/or Artificial Intelligence (AI) and experience working with students from various backgrounds and abilities. The selected candidate will be expected to have an active research agenda and conduct scholarly activities such as research in a particular field of knowledge, seek external funding, and submit for publication and presentation at professional conferences; advise doctoral students; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; participate in program leadership and department and university committees; and develop and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Publish in respected refereed scholarly journals
- Pursue external funding
- Present at academic and practitioner-based conferences
- Advise and mentor graduate students, including service on dissertation committees, research, teaching, and community-engaged scholarship
- Teach (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or asynchronously online) courses at the undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. levels
- Assist with continued curriculum development and accreditation processes
- Engage in program leadership
- Provide service to the program, department, college, university, community, and profession
- Collaborate with program, department, and university committees
- Maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D./Ed.D. in Early Childhood Education, or closely related field at time of appointment
- Expertise in Early Childhood Math, Science, and/or STEM
- Record of scholarly activity commensurate with expectations for Assistant or Associate Professor, including publications in academic journals and procurement of external funding
- Experience in teaching birth through age 8 in a formal setting
- Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of successful applications for external funding commensurate with expectations for Assistant or Associate Professor
- Record of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring students in higher education contexts
- Experience working with students from various backgrounds, including multilingual students and/or students with varying exceptionalities
- Experience teaching in multiple modalities (i.e., face-to-face, hybrid, asynchronously online)
- Experience with integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and coursework
- Experience designing and implementing new courses
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Education policies and practices
